"Two oak trees dominate the front of this traditional pub in a quiet country lane.
Huge blackboard menus offer plenty of interest: vegetables travel from rear garden
to kitchen."
MICHELIN GUIDE TO EATING OUT IN PUBS 2008
"Satisfyingly familiar pub classics and more formal restaurant recipes run side by
side on the Bear and Ragged Staff's huge chalkboards; add to this the occasional
fish specials and there's sure to be something that appeals. What's more, even with
such a big choice, it's safe to assume the cooking will be tasty and prepared with
sound culinary know-how.
In fact, it would be easy to take this country pub for granted: unremarkable on the
outside, comfortable and traditional within, it seems almost too pleasant and unassuming
for its own good, but fortunately the locals know a good thing when they see it.
Service is friendly with no standing on ceremony: though the pub is divided into
a classically styled dining room and bar, you can order what you like and eat it
where you choose."
